It took me forever to read this book not because it was not amazing but mostly from my own scattered attention and other interests. It was also quite dense at times and required me to sit and think about it so I wasn’t turning the pages as quickly as I wanted to. The Wind-Up Bird Chronicle is the first Murakami book I have read. The world is fantastical and I have heard his books are gentle and jazz-infused. The writing is amazing or maybe I should say the translation. I never know how much the original and the translation are to be recognized when the writing is so good. I have to believe it is the original especially since Murakami is actively participating in the translation process.
The whole thing I could never explain. Someone asked me what I was reading, then what it was about, and I didn’t even know how to start. I said it was about a man and his wife and things happen. That was the best I could do without getting into the details. I am really interested in reading more of his books after this.
